Streetscape Projects
Flamingo Arroyo Trail Project - 2004
- ongoing Las Vegas, Nevada. Design Team Artist in collaboration
with Buster Simpson, Barbara Grygutis and J.W. Zunino Landscape
architects. This project involves the design of artwork integrated
into various public amenities along a 12 mile trail adjacent
to the Flamingo Arroyo. The project was commissioned through
the Clark County Public Works Dept.
Tempe Canal Multi Use Path Project - 2003-2008
Design Team Artist in collaboration with e-Group landscape
architects. This project involves the design of artwork integrated
into public ammenities and signage along a 1 mile long canal
bank pathway, located between University Dr. And Price Rd.
in Tempe, AZ. The Artist was hired by the City of Tempe as
a design consultant.
Fifth Street Pedestrian Improvements and Traffic Calming
Project - 1996-2001
Design Team Artist in collaboration with A. Dye Design Landscape
Architects. This project involved designing art elements to
be integrated into intersections, crosswalks, sidewalks and
light pole banners that work to develop a strong sense of
neighborhood identity. The Riverside/Sunset community project
is located at Fifth Street in Tempe, AZ and runs from Priest
Drive to Farmer Avenue. The Artist was hired by the City of
Tempe as a design consultant.
Tributary Wall - 1999
1200'1.x 10'h. Concrete and glass block, river rock, corten
steel. Design Team Artist in collaboration with Design Workshop
Inc., Goldwater Boulevard West Couplet, Scottsdale, AZ. This
buffer wall project is of a site specific nature and is conceptually
inspired by the wall's close proximity to the canal. Seven
steel fish of various sizes ranging from 18' to 9' long are
anchored to the wave like wall. Natural sunlight filters through
the glass block and perforated scale pattern highlighting
each fish as the sun sets.
Tovrea Castle Renovation Project - 1998-present
Design Team Artist in collaboration with E-Group Landscape
Architects. As a member of the design team, the Artist was
responsible for creating drawings and maquettes to be included
as a part of a Conceptual Master Plan for the renovation of
Tovrea Castle and the surrounding cactus gardens. The Artist
created designs for entryway features, kiosks, pavilions and
an interpretive theme wall and trail system. The project was
funded through the City of Phoenix.
Bus Shelter - 1995
Approx. 9'h.x 15'1.x 8'w. Steel, rebar, cast bronze, river
rock, copper. Goldwater Boulevard West Couplet, Scottsdale,
AZ. Two bus shelters were designed, fabricated and installed
by the artist, both located on Goldwater Blvd., one at Indian
School Rd., and the other just south of Camelback Rd. The
structures received both the Orchid Award, and the Valley
Forward Association Award of Merit for Environmental Excellence.
Sound Barrier Wall, Treeguard and Treegrate - 1995
The wall is approx. 400'long x 10'high. Block wall, river
rock, corten steel. Goldwater Boulevard West Couplet, Scottsdale,
AZ. The project received the Valley Forward Association Award
of Merit for Environmental Excellence.
Hummingbird Sanctuary Park - 1995
Approx. 150'1.x 30'w. Concrete, steel, rebar, river rock,
trumpet vines. Civic Center Boulevard, East Couplet, City
of Scottsdale, AZ. Five Trumpet Vine Column sculptures are
placed within the plaza area. Trumpet vines attached to each
column attract hummingbirds to the site. The park plaza was
designed as a shady respite for residents of the adjacent
neighborhood and nursing home and as a place to enjoy nature
and bird watching. The project received the Valley Forward
Association Crescordia Award for Environmental Excellence.
Dunlap Avenue Streetscape Project - 1990
Dunlap Ave. from Central Ave. to 7th St. Phoenix, AZ. City
of Phoenix, Phoenix Arts Commission. The Artist created a
series of cast and sculpted bronze elements imbedded in the
sidewalks on each side of Dunlap Avenue. The work promotes
a strong sense of place and historical identity. The imagery
relates directly to the local history and present activity
of the neighborhood. In addition, the work unifies a large
section of a major street in the Sunnyslope community.
